I talk a lot about self-forgiveness, and some people are unsure what that means. After all, most of us have been taught our entire lives that forgiveness is about forgiving someone else and their actions. In actuality, forgiveness should always begin with ourselves.
One of the most common situations in which self-forgiveness should be used is with feelings of regret. Whether it’s something we did or didn’t do in the past, harboring regret is toxic because it propels us into a place of “poverty thinking” — a place where we don’t have abundance and are attracting more of that which we lack (or think we lack).
The only solution to regret is self-forgiveness. Once you forgive yourself, focus on that which you DO have control of: the present moment. The present moment is an opportunity, and you can easily create abundance and solutions to your problems by embracing where you are at this moment in time. Let the past go, and stop focusing on the outcome of the future; what matters most is what thoughts and feelings you allow into your life in the here and now. If you focus on abundance and see yourself at a positive place right now, you’re building a stronger foundation than any feeling of regret or dis-ease can ever give you.
So surrender the past to the present, forgive yourself, and embrace this present moment as the greatest opportunity you’ve received to date.
